On Blogging and Game Theory
Written by Tom Nugent on Thursday, August 2nd, 2007
I would love to have blogged about more of what’s been happening with LaserMotive over the last few months. And if we weren’t entered in a competition, I certainly would have, because I think openness is a Good Thing. However, we are entered in a competition, and game theory suggests that publishing too much information is not a good idea, otherwise your competitors will take advantage of it.
As Ted Semon pointed out, not many teams in the Power Beaming competition are posting information about what they’re doing. I think we’re the only team with a regularly updated blog. A few other teams have had a couple of news stories over the last 7 months, but that’s it. Being too busy may be part of why teams aren’t posting, but I think it’s also that no one wants to reveal what they’re doing and/or how ready they are.
That all being said, I’m going to see if I can increase the posting tempo a bit – I’d like to post more than once per week. We’re going to slowly reveal more about our team and our activities, because – honestly? – it’s getting to be too late for anyone to change much in response to what they learn about other teams. Plus, I’m just dying to disclose more about the cool stuff going on here!
To all the other teams: Come on, go ahead and post some news! We’ve already revealed some of what we’re doing, and are posting regularly. Can we get some company in this endeavor?
